Overview

[11C]-GMOM (full chemical name: [11C]N-(2-chloro-5-thiomethylphenyl)-N'-(3-methoxyphenyl)-N'-methylguanidine) is a carbon-11 radiolabeled small molecule PET radiotracer developed as a diagnostic imaging agent targeting the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) / phencyclidine (PCP) receptor ion channel in the brain. Developed by Vrije Universiteit Medisch Centrum (Amsterdam UMC), it is a methylguanidine derivative with high affinity (Ki ~ 5.2 nM) for the PCP binding site. The tracer is used to quantify NMDA receptor binding in vivo, providing a tool to study conditions involving glutamate neurotransmission dysregulation, such as schizophrenia, depression, and various neurological disorders. It has been evaluated in human dosimetry and biodistribution studies, demonstrating an effective dose profile suitable for serial PET scanning.
